Flooring Installation Cost in Vancouver, WA: 2026 Price Guide

Hardwood floor in an open living and dining room

Flooring installation typically costs about $4 to $15 per square foot installed nationally, according to HomeGuide (February 5, 2026). Vancouver flooring companies publish ranges in the same ballpark. One lists $3 to $14 installed by material (Vancouver Flooring Co, September 3, 2026), and another lists labor-only rates starting at $2 to $6.50 (Skyview Flooring, June 23, 2026).

The catch is that some of those numbers include materials and some do not. This guide puts them side by side, shows the math for a 12 by 12 room up to 3,000 square feet, and covers the extra costs that surprise people, such as removal, subfloor repair and moisture checks. Every number names its source and date. Where we do the math ourselves, we say so.

Key takeaways
  • HomeGuide's national average is $4 to $15 per square foot installed. By type, carpet is $2 to $8 and hardwood is $11 to $25 (HomeGuide, February 5, 2026).

  • Always ask whether a price is labor only or installed. A $4 labor-only rate and a $4 installed rate are very different jobs.

  • A 1,000 square foot job is $4,000 to $15,000 and a 2,000 square foot house is $8,000 to $30,000 at HomeGuide's all-floor range (our arithmetic).

  • Removal, subfloor repair, underlayment, trim and stairs can each add to the bill. Ask for them as line items.

  • In our wet climate, a moisture check before wood or vinyl goes down can save you from cupping and gaps later.

Flooring Installation Cost in Vancouver, WA: The Short Answer

This table compares the installed cost per square foot from three published sources. The first two are national. The third is a Vancouver, WA flooring company. A source that does not list a floor shows Not listed.

Floor typeHomeGuide, Feb 5, 2026 (national, installed)Angi, Oct 9, 2026 (national)Vancouver Flooring Co, Sep 3, 2026 (Vancouver, installed)
Carpet$2-$8$3.50-$11$3-$8
Laminate$4-$14$3-$13$4-$8
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP)$4-$16$2-$14 (vinyl, all types)$5-$10
Engineered hardwood$7-$20$4.50-$16$8-$14 (hardwood or engineered)
Solid hardwood$11-$25$6-$25$8-$14 (hardwood or engineered)
Tile$10-$50$15-$20Not listed

The local column sits at the low end of the national ranges. Treat it as a starting point, because that page does not say where its numbers come from. Angi does not say whether its ranges are installed or materials only. HomeGuide labels its ranges as installed.

For comparison, a Seattle-area guide from Angi (July 8, 2026) puts midrange new flooring installation in Seattle at $13 to $16 per square foot. We did not find a published price study for Vancouver, WA alone, so we do not claim one.

One more local data point: homeyou (October 2, 2026) says typical Vancouver flooring jobs ran $933 to $7,003, based on 707 quotes this year. It does not say which floor types or sizes those quotes covered, so we use it only as a sense of scale.

Labor Only or Installed? How to Compare Flooring Bids

Two quotes for the same room can differ by hundreds of dollars just because one includes the floor and one does not. Here are the labor-only figures we found.

Source and dateLabor-only rateWhat it covers
Skyview Flooring, Vancouver, June 23, 2026Carpet about $2; LVP and laminate about $4; hardwood about $6.50 per sq ftStarting labor rates, customer supplies material
Skyview Flooring, June 23, 2026About $2.50 per sq ft extraRemoving existing hardwood
HomeGuide, February 5, 2026$2-$8 per sq ftLabor only, national
Angi, October 9, 2026$0.60-$4 per sq ftLabor only, national
Angi, Seattle, July 8, 2026$3-$9 per sq ftLabor only, Seattle
Angi, Portland, hardwood, July 8, 2026$3-$5 per sq ftLabor only, hardwood, Portland

These sources disagree. Angi's national labor range tops out at $4, while its Seattle page tops out at $9. That gap is why a written, itemized quote matters more than any average.

Local labor costs can also push prices above national averages. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (released June 30, 2026, May 2025 data) lists average wages of $39.44 per hour for construction and extraction occupations in the Portland area, against $31.42 nationally. That is a group of trades, not floor installers alone. Clark County is part of the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro metro area.

Flooring Installation Cost by Square Footage

Use this table to size up your project. These are our arithmetic, multiplying the published per-square-foot ranges by the area. They are not quotes.

1,000 sq ft$4,000-$15,000$2,000-$8,000$4,000-$16,000$11,000-$25,000
1,200 sq ft$4,800-$18,000$2,400-$9,600$4,800-$19,200$13,200-$30,000
2,000 sq ft$8,000-$30,000$4,000-$16,000$8,000-$32,000$22,000-$50,000
3,000 sq ft$12,000-$45,000$6,000-$24,000$12,000-$48,000$33,000-$75,000

All four rate columns come from HomeGuide (February 5, 2026), whose own table lists 1,000 square feet at $4,000 to $15,000, 1,200 at $4,800 to $18,000 and 2,000 at $8,000 to $30,000. That matches the arithmetic here.

How much to install 1,000 square feet of flooring

At HomeGuide's all-floor range, 1,000 square feet is $4,000 to $15,000 installed. The spread is large because a basement carpet job and a hardwood main floor are different projects. Pick your floor type from the table above before you set a budget.

How much to floor a 12x12 room

A 12 by 12 room is 144 square feet. At HomeGuide's range that is $576 to $2,160. Angi (October 9, 2026) lists $1,800 for a 12 by 12 room, which equals its roughly $12.50 per square foot average times 144.

How much to refloor a 2,000 square foot house

At HomeGuide's range, 2,000 square feet is $8,000 to $30,000 installed. Add removal of the old floor at $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot (Angi, October 9, 2026), which is $3,000 to $7,000 for the same area, our arithmetic. Whole-house jobs also need furniture moved and trim handled, so ask who does that.

How much to install 1,200 and 3,000 square feet of hardwood

At HomeGuide's $11 to $25 for installed hardwood, 1,200 square feet is $13,200 to $30,000 and 3,000 square feet is $33,000 to $75,000, our arithmetic. Engineered wood at $7 to $20 brings 1,200 square feet to $8,400 to $24,000. The Vancouver Flooring Co range of $8 to $14 for hardwood or engineered (September 3, 2026) would put 1,200 square feet at $9,600 to $16,800. Treat the gap between sources as a reason to get at least two local quotes.

Flooring Cost by Type

Hardwood floor installation cost

HomeGuide (February 5, 2026) lists $11 to $25 per square foot installed for solid hardwood. Angi (October 9, 2026) lists $6 to $25. Solid wood is sensitive to moisture, so it needs more care on slabs and over crawlspaces in our wet climate. The NWFA guidance below covers what installers check first.

Engineered hardwood cost

Engineered hardwood runs $7 to $20 per square foot installed (HomeGuide, February 5, 2026) or $4.50 to $16 (Angi, October 9, 2026). Its layered build is often chosen for slabs and basements, but the subfloor still has to be dry and flat.

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) cost

LVP is $4 to $16 per square foot installed at HomeGuide (February 5, 2026). Vancouver Flooring Co lists $5 to $10 (September 3, 2026). Skyview Flooring lists about $4 per square foot for labor only (June 23, 2026). LVP is a common pick for kitchens and baths because it handles water better than wood, though it still needs a flat subfloor.

Laminate cost

Laminate runs $4 to $14 installed at HomeGuide (February 5, 2026) and $3 to $13 at Angi (October 9, 2026). Vancouver Flooring Co lists $4 to $8 (September 3, 2026).

Carpet cost

Carpet is among the lowest-cost options at $2 to $8 per square foot installed (HomeGuide, February 5, 2026), or $3.50 to $11 at Angi (October 9, 2026). Vancouver Flooring Co lists $3 to $8 (September 3, 2026). Carpet removal runs $0.70 to $1.60 per square foot (HomeGuide, February 5, 2026).

Tile floor cost

Tile has the widest spread at $10 to $50 per square foot installed (HomeGuide, February 5, 2026). Angi lists $15 to $20 (October 9, 2026). Tile removal costs $2 to $7 per square foot (HomeGuide, February 5, 2026). For wet areas and backsplashes, see our tile installation services in Vancouver, WA.

What Else Goes on the Flooring Bill?

The per-square-foot rate rarely covers everything. Ask whether each of these is included, and how it is priced.

Here is the math for a 2,000 square foot house with old flooring to pull up. Removal at $1.50 to $3.50 adds $3,000 to $7,000. A subfloor replacement at $3 to $10 on just 10% of the area (200 square feet) adds $600 to $2,000. These are our arithmetic on the published ranges.

The sources disagree on subfloor work, which is why the table lists both. Ask your contractor to inspect the subfloor and price any repair as its own line.

Subfloor Prep and Moisture in Clark County

Vancouver gets about 37.47 inches of rain a year, and about 83% of it falls from October to April (National Weather Service Portland office, Vancouver Pearson Airport station, 1991-2020 normals; the 83% is our arithmetic on the monthly normals). That wet season is why moisture checks matter before you install.

What the wood flooring association says

  • The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) installation guidelines (revised 2025) call for a jobsite at 30% to 50% relative humidity and 60 to 80 degrees F, with the heating and cooling system running at least 5 days before the flooring is delivered.

  • Never install a wood floor over a known moisture condition, according to the same NWFA guidelines.

  • For concrete slabs, the NWFA says the slab must be dry and moisture-tested, and it strongly recommends a vapor retarder rated at 0.13 perm or less, such as 6-mil polyethylene.

  • For wood subfloors, a Hardwood Floors magazine article (October 9, 2023, page modified March 6, 2026) says a wood subfloor's moisture content should be within 2 to 4 percent of the flooring's expected equilibrium moisture content, depending on plank width.

Angi's Seattle guide (July 8, 2026) gives a subfloor moisture target of under 12%. Different flooring types have different limits, so follow the manufacturer's instructions and ask your installer to record the readings.

Crawlspaces, slabs and basements

Vancouver Flooring Co (September 3, 2026) lists crawlspace moisture prep as a factor in flooring cost but gives no price. We found no published price for slab moisture testing or mitigation, so we do not give one. If your installer recommends it, ask for a written line item.

Choosing a floor for a damp climate

This is general guidance, not a sourced claim: LVP and tile tolerate moisture better than solid hardwood, while solid hardwood needs the most careful subfloor and humidity control. Ask your installer what they would choose for your slab, crawlspace or basement and why.

Older Homes: Test Old Flooring Before You Tear It Out

Some older vinyl tile, sheet-vinyl backing and tile adhesive can contain asbestos. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says not to sand or try to level asbestos flooring or its backing, and that removal must be done by a contractor with special training. CPSC adds that when asbestos flooring needs replacing, new floor covering can go over it, if possible.

The Southwest Clean Air Agency (SWCAA), which covers Clark County, says asbestos can be found in many materials in homes of all ages and tells homeowners to take steps to guard against health risks before they remodel. If your old floor could be affected, have it tested before any demolition. Published abatement costs run $5 to $20 per square foot (Bob Vila, 2023; HomeAdvisor, December 2024).

Washington Sales Tax and Your Flooring Quote

The Washington Department of Revenue lists repairing or improving real property for consumers as a taxable retail service at the state rate of 6.5%. Vancouver's combined rate is 8.9% for both July 1 to September 30 and October 1 to December 31, 2026 (Department of Revenue). Rates can change each quarter, so check the Department of Revenue site.

Here is the math. At 8.9%, tax on a $5,000 job is $445 and on a $10,000 job it is $890, our arithmetic. Ask each bidder whether tax is in the number, so you compare bids on the same basis.

How to Read a Flooring Quote

  1. Installed or labor only. Ask whether the floor itself is in the price.

  2. Square footage. Check that the measured area includes closets and waste for cuts.

  3. Removal and disposal. Confirm whether old flooring is pulled up and hauled away.

  4. Subfloor. Ask how repairs and leveling will be priced if problems appear.

  5. Underlayment and moisture barrier. Ask what goes under the floor.

  6. Trim and transitions. Baseboards, shoe molding and thresholds are often extra.

  7. Furniture and stairs. Ask who moves furniture and how stairs are priced.

  8. Sales tax and timeline. Get both in writing.

Our own rule of thumb is to keep a cushion of 10% to 15% for surprises like subfloor repair. That is our advice, not a sourced figure.

Ways to Save on Flooring Installation

  • Choose the right floor for the room. LVP or laminate can cost far less than hardwood, as the tables above show.

  • Do the prep you can. Clearing furniture may save the per-room moving fee.

  • Bundle the work. Flooring done with a kitchen remodel or bathroom remodel avoids paying for two mobilizations.

  • Get two itemized local quotes. Compare them line by line.

  • Fix moisture first. A dry subfloor prevents a replacement later.
